Julie Franklin has been working in the arts for over 25 years, and for the last 12 years as Registrar and Rights and Reproductions Manager at The Magnes Collection at UC Berkeley. At SF State, she teaches courses in museum collections management and registration.
Formerly, Julie was the Director of the California Crafts Museum, and the Registrar at the Treasure Island Museum, The Mexican Museum and the San Jose Museum of Art. She has successfully overseen the installations of over 75 exhibitions in four Bay Area museums and was instrumental in helping the San Jose Museum of Art obtain their American Association of Museum’s Accreditation.
In addition to museum work, Julie has a deep interest in the local art scene and gives guided tours of museums and galleries; and more recently has been studying Gardens, Parks, and Urban Open Spaces with the intention of providing public art tours in San Francisco.
Julie holds a Master’s degree in Museum Studies with a specialization in Collections Management and Exhibition Design from San Francisco State University, a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting from Ohio State University, and a Bachelor’s in Cultural Anthropology from San Francisco State University.
