Biography

Effective Fall 2018, Debra Peterson teaches the course, M S 810 Museums in the Digital Age. An alumna of SF State, Debra received her MA in Museum Studies in 2006. She also has a BA in Art History from Grinnell College in Iowa.

Debra is the Curatorial Collections Specialist at the San Mateo County Historical Association where she manages collection information and coordinates large-scale digitization projects. She worked for several years as the Digital Asset Registrar for the Oakland Museum of California; in collection management and registration at both the Magnes Museum and the California Academy of Sciences; and as a Volunteer Coordinator at the University Place Art Center (LUX Center for the Arts), in Lincoln, Nebraska.

Debra has presented at the American Institute for Conservation of Historic and Artistic Works and Western Museums Association conferences. She is experienced with a range of Collection Management Systems and is interested in aligning digital strategies with the preservation of cultural heritage and providing the infrastructure for the creative discovery of museum collections.
